Crew Enquiries

What's your crew enquiry?

  • Skippers are you looking for additional crew?
  • Are you crew looking for a ride?
  • Are you a first timer wanting to give it a go?
  • Or a more experienced crew wanting to broaden their sailing experience by racing with someone else?

CYCHI will wherever possible try to facilitate the introduction of crew and skippers.

New to race crewing?  What to expect:

  • Yacht racing is very different from a leisure cruise.
  • Like most water sports, yacht racing is considered a Dangerous Recreational Activity and involves inherent risks.
  • Racing can be both physically and mentally demanding.
  • Frequent manoeuvres are part of racing, causing the yacht to heel, accelerate, and change direction regularly.
  • Yacht racing is exciting and rewarding, but there may be periods that feel busy, challenging, or stressful.

As a racing crew member, you will be expected to actively participate in sailing the yacht. You should have a reasonable level of fitness and capability to undertake tasks such as:

  • Moving safely around the deck of a moving yacht. Deck surfaces may be wet, slippery, and constantly moving while underway.
  • Assisting with hoisting, lowering, and trimming sails. This may involve pulling or winching lines and using your arms, back, and grip strength.
  • Listening carefully to instructions, communicating effectively, and remaining calm under pressure.
  • Please help us keep everyone safe by advising us of any medical condition, injury, mobility limitation, or other circumstance that may affect your ability to perform these tasks while on board.
